Read the whole profile, including what they say about themselves Check what the verification badge means for this person Message them here and see how they reply Agree a public place, a date and a time for the first meeting Tell a family member or friend where you are going

See the original national ID and check the name and face match Ask for the phone numbers of two previous employers Ask about the work they enjoy and the work they do not Explain exactly what the job involves — do not soften it Say clearly what you can pay, and ask if that works for them Ask when they could start, and whether they need accommodation

Actually ring both previous employers Ask each one: how long did they work for you? Ask each one: why did they leave? Ask each one: would you employ them again?

Monthly salary in KSh, and the date it is paid each month Working hours, and what time the working day ends Days off per week or per month, and public holidays Whether food and accommodation are included Whether NSSF and SHIF contributions will be made Notice period on both sides What happens about leave, sick days and emergencies Any additional duties, such as childcare or driving

Agree a trial period and say when you will both review it Show them how your household actually runs — do not assume Introduce them to the neighbours or the gate Check in properly after two weeks and ask how it is going Leave a review on House Managers so the next family knows
